All about the Glaciar Sur Aventura.

The National Park is full of places difficult to access to: places unique in their beauty that still preserve nature in its purest form.

Glaciar Sur Aventura is an experience designed for those in good physical condition, people trained for long treks determined to challenge the changing climate and live nature to the highest extent.

The activity departs from El Calafate through the Route N° 15, heading to the Pioneers Quay on the margins of the Roca Lake. “Guardaparque Fonzo”, a cabined rubber boat equipped with heating system, with a holding capacity of 11 people, will be waiting for the participants.

The sailing heads to the Rico Canal of the Argentino Lake until reaching its southern end, where the group disembarks to begin a privileged one and a half-hour-long trek through a wooded morainic path that leads to the Frías Lake. This is a lake of pure water and hidden glaciers that retreat leaving a quantity of ice-bergs, witnesses of the immensity that glaciers should have had a long time ago.

Zodiac boats will be waiting at this point to disembark at De la Pared Beach, after a 30 minute-sail. On that beach, the second walk is started, lasting 6 hours and covering 14km (9 miles) in terrains with little slopes requiring moderate physical demand. The aim will be to enter the Andes Mountain Range through the forest, until reaching the border with Chile and the water divide. The final destination is the glaciers’ scenario, admiring the glaciers “Grande”, “Cubo” and “Dickson”.

Time for lunch has come. Each participant has their own box lunch , provided by the guide at the beginning of the tour.

After almost 12 hours of intense activity, the way back to El Calafate starts.

The circuit is a true timeline marked by successive glacier signs that, from El Calafate to the border with Chile, show these giant ices’ transformation capacity.

Only 15 people out of the 2.000 visitors that daily enter the National Park will be able to live this magic experience.
